An
apsara is a female spirit of the clouds and waters in Hindu and Buddhist
mythology. Apsaras are beautiful, supernatural female beings. They are youthful
and elegant, and superb in the art of dancing. They are often the wives of the
Gandharvas, the court musicians of Indra. They dance to the music made by the
Gandharvas, usually in the palaces of the gods, entertain and sometimes seduce
gods and men. Urvasi, Menaka, Rambha and Tilottama are the most famous among
them.
Well,
we all are familiar with the story where Sage Vishwamitra was performing a very
difficult tapasya. Indra, the king of Gods, was afraid that once completed, the
tapasya would make Vishwamitra very powerful and he would even be able to
conquer heaven. So Indra sent Menaka, a beautiful dancer of his court, to
earth. Menaka went to the forest where Viswamitra sat with his eyes closed. She
sang, danced, made garlands of fragrant flowers and put them around
Vishwamitra's neck to attract his attention. All this disturbed Vishwamitra and
he opened his eyes, thus, his meditation was broken.
Though
it was an epic story, I feel that the story has been being reenacted since
couple of weeks here in God’s own country against modern backdrops (political
backdrops). The two ‘Apsaras’; Saritha
S. Nair and Shalu Menon came to destroy the Tapasya (governance) of Oommen
Chandy led UDF government, their very entry was like rubbing salt into the
wound for the government which already
had been in the web of the controversies.
If
Menaka with her songs, dance and beauty could disturb Vishwamitra and break his
long meditation, back here in Kerala two
‘apsaras’; Saritha S. Nair and Shalu Menon with their beauty, youthfulness,
elegance, sexy and hot appearance could easily woo Oommen Chandy led UDF
government. (Indeed, the said attributes are very much present in them). Money
and Lady are always the weaknesses of men and it is being proved again and for
both men would be flattered.
The
call list of Saritha S Nair and VIPs who paid visit to Salu Menon includes; two
Union Ministers; Kodikunnel Suresh and K. C. Venugopal, Chief Minister, Oommen
Chandy, Ministers; Home Minister, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Tourism
Minister, A. P. Anil Kumar, Revenue Minister, Adoor Prakash, Power Minister,
Aryadan Mohammed, Culture Minister, K. C. Joseph, Labour Minister, Shibu Baby
John, Tribal & Youth Affairs Minister, P. K. Jayalakshmi, Home Minister’s
Private Secretary P. K Raveendran, Government Chief Whip, P. C. George, KPCC
Chief, Ramesh Chennithala, Former Minister, K. B. Ganesh Kumar, MLAs; Mons
Joseph, Benny Behnan, Hibi Eden, Additional Personal Secretary of Anil Kumar P
Nazarulla, Deputy Leader of Opposition Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and the list is
endless…………… (names as given in The Times of India).
The
current episodes are enough to upset any normal Keralalite, where the
governance stands still. It has been months now that the ruling coalition in
the web of controversies and mother of all is the solar panel fraud which
ruling coalition is also linked to. Irrespective of the political parties
people belong to, are clamoring for the ouster of both Chief Minister and Home
Minister but they don’t succumb to the political pressure. The fraudulent solar
deal is allegedly taken place in CM’s office and the CM can’t simply wash off his
hands accusing of his private secretary and gun man. He being the head of the
state should first run office without corruption from there all his activities
should be streaming out.
I
strongly feel that it is nice for his to quit his office rather than clinging
to power. Literally going by the saying ‘Make hay while the sun shines,’
‘Congress I’ took the advantage of the time and played their tricks for the
humiliation that KPCC Chief, Ramesh Chennithala had to bear over Deputy CM post
dispute. The irony is that amidst all
these controversies, Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, received UN award for mass
contact.
But
the question remains, who would have sent these: ‘apsaras’; Saritha S. Nair and
Shalu Menon to Kerala politics? Anyway, it can’t be the opposition parties
because they too are wooed and were flattered by these ‘apsaras.’
