Palakkuzha
(Koothattukulam): "I am an atheist and so I won't pray. But, you all
should come and pray together. If not, there would be utter calamity. Even a
combined prayer section by all the religions is also welcome. You should pray
in such a way that it should rain otherwise, we will be in danger." said
Minister for Electricity, Kerala, M. M. Mani who came to Palakuzha Panchayath
to inaugurate a drinking water distribution project on July 15, 2019.
His remark came in the
wake of the state government mulling over power curbs due to shortage of water
in the hydroelectric project reservoirs due to the southwest monsoon playing
truant in Kerala.
It is said that
in order to be a true atheist one should have deep knowledge about God and His
powers. In this regard, Minister for Electricity, Kerala, M. M. Mani knows the
power of prayer. Deep in his heart he could be a believer of God, and perhaps
his political doctrines are forcing him to wear the mask of an atheist.
In all its
likelihood, his parents would have sown the seeds of faith in God in him
during his childhood and perhaps it was this knowledge implanted in his mind
that subconsciously persuaded him to ask his audience to pray for the monsoon
rain.
M. M. Mani is
known for his spontaneity and his own typical village style of oration which is
believed to have come out of his state of innocence. He also had landed in
trouble for his "1,2,3 speech." Therefore, his appeal to pray for
rain is likely to have come out of his innocence, rather from his subliminal
faith in God.
People must
have taken up his appeal for prayer for the monsoon, thus, it has been raining
heavily in Kerala from July 18, 2019.
